Why I do my job
Working in HR can sometimes be a challenge – but it can also be immensely rewarding too and that’s why I love working in HR. I have a natural ability to build strong relationships quickly that enables me to achieve desired outcomes fast and efficiently. As an HR professional you can influence numerous aspects within an organisation, which will not only support the employee’s personal development but also supports the growth of the business too.
I love not knowing exactly what my day will bring and thrive in the ambiguity of not knowing what is going to happen next. Working in HR means that I’m constantly learning new skills and looking for ways to improve training, recruitment, engagement and HR processes.
I wouldn’t change it for anything else now and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.
What I did before
I have worked in several different HR related roles including HR generalist, Learning & Development Advisor and Recruitment both internal and as a consultant. I have worked for both larger international companies and start-up businesses. Both of which come with different challenges and ways of operating.
Since losing a close friend from a mental health condition, I have been passionate about raising awareness around this. I’m now a qualified Mental Health First Aider and actively encourage discussions around Mental Health in the workplace.
What keeps me going when things get tough?
When things get tough, I like to talk things through with normally a couple of different people to get a different perspective on the problem/challenge. Everyone at CitrusHR consulting is incredibily supportive and I know that I can call anyone for a quick chat if I need to talk through a problem.
However, if all else fails, I have been known to turn to a cheeky Gin and Tonic once in a while!
